Nature

Nature is truly something valuable and beautiful from the bright colours of flowers when they bloom, to the fresh smell of rain. The texture of leaves, rich soil, and variety of animals. It is everything we should take care of around us, from trees to flowers, the ocean, and all animals. Each element is connected, and together they make up our world.

Earth has a global increasing population of 8.1 billion people and an estimated 3.04 trillion trees. With this, we are facing serious environmental challenges. Millions of trees have been destroyed by wildfires; in 2022 alone, over 6.6 million acres were lost. This is one of the many issues that need to be addressed, highlighted by increasing fire activity in recent years, devastating fires in Hawaii and record-breaking destruction across Canada.

Climate change is also an urgent concern as Earth's temperature continues to rise at an alarming rate. Temperatures have been rising by roughly 2°F / -7.222°C since 1850, nowadays the rate increased by three times. Extinction of animals, loss of habitat, and extreme weather are all results of these changes to the ecosystems.

The fossil fuel industry is known for producing large amounts of CO2, increasing global warming. Emissions from fossil fuels have risen by 1% in 2022 to reach 40.5 gigatons (unit of explosive power) of CO2. Furthermore, the problem is made worse by the fact that cars are used so extensively—there are an estimated 1.47 billion vehicles on the planet.
These few facts demonstrate how urgently action must be taken.

Plants

Plants which are a diverse group can be differentiated based on their size, structure and their environments. From the biggest trees to the smallest, most delicate flowers, they are used for maintaining balance in ecosystems and providing oxygen to all living things.

Every kind of plant has specific requirements for its development, regarding the soil, light, water supply, and nutrients. Plants purify our air and are a part of the animal life cycle. House plants bring life to our interiors enhancing quality of life as well as calmness. Plants are able to adjust to the environment of our homes.

We should not only have them as an aesthetic decoration with beautiful green leaves but also as an air purifier that removes indoor pollutants. Apart from the fact that they add beauty to the home, plants are good in helping to deal with stress and other issues affecting mental health.

"The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it."
- Robert Swan

Helping the Future

To anyone who worries about the uncertainty of the future, we all have a responsibility to protect the planet and the smallest of actions can make a significant impact. Reducing the consumption of disposable or limited-use items, reusing items instead of buying new ones and recycling whatever can be recycled.

Some measures that have to be performed include participating in the cleanups, using less water, and refraining from the use of plastics. Also, using efficient bulbs, planting trees, and utilizing non-toxic products in the home. Finally, promoting biking and reducing car usage is an environmentally responsible act, as fewer greenhouse emissions are released into the atmosphere.
